I’On Assembly Committee Descriptions
Unlike Board members, committee members are appointed, and anyone interested in serving on a committee is welcome. All positions are voluntary and limited to residents who own property in I’On.
The Amenities Committee is chartered to advise the I’On Board of Trustees on the operation of major Assembly owned or accessed common areas. These include Maybank Green, The Amphitheatre on Westlake, the Soccer Field, the Playgrounds, and the Boathouse on Eastlake. The committee regularly coordinates with the Management Company on member reservations and works to ensure proper care and maintenance of the Commons with the Landscaping and Infrastructure committees. The committee also coordinates with the owner of the Creek Club to ensure ongoing reasonable access to the docks, boat landing, and community use of the Creek Club building. The committee’s goal is to protect all the amenities in I’On so they may be enjoyed from generation to generation.
The Communications Committee works to promote a good understanding of community business through effective communications internal and external to I’On. Communication vehicles have been created for the Assembly (HOA) Board to provide and receive effective communication about Assembly business in a timely manner. These include:
- Annual and Mid-Year I’On Assembly Meetings;
- Homeowners’ forum at the beginning of monthly Board Meetings;
- Direct mail through the USPS when required;
- Internet-based communications, which include:
- The I’On Community Website where agendas and minutes are officially posted;
- Informal updates included in the monthly “Living in I’On” homeowners’ newsletter;
- Periodic email notifications sent directly to residents and property owners.
The committee works closely with the I’On Trust as well as external groups to keep I’On residents and property owners informed of topics that might be of interest to them.
The Covenants Committee is charged with assuring the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, & Restrictions for I’On, as well as other rules laid out in the I’On Governing Documents, are followed to the benefit of the homeowners in the community. This involves helping homeowners understand and comply with established rules as well as offering a path to resolve issues as they arise. The documents also include enforcement tools when other attempts at resolution fail. The committee serves as unofficial advisors to the Board on matters involving interpretation of the Governing Documents as well as amendment of those documents as needed over time.
The Board of Appeals is assigned the responsibility of hearing an appeal when a homeowner is not satisfied with a decision previously made by the Covenants Committee or the I’On Design Committee.
The Finance Committee, chaired by the Treasurer, reviews the status of our annual budget, operating funds, capital reserves, collections and monthly expenditures. The Treasurer leads the process of:
Preparing the annual budget, working with the management company, and other members of the Board;
Establishing annual assessments, as well as special assessments, when needed;
Working with the Management Company on collecting annual assessments
Filing federal & state tax returns;
Investing reserves and operating funds;
Ensuring the annual report is prepared.
The I’On Design Committee (IDC) is responsible for protecting the property values of all homeowners in I’On, now and in the future, by reviewing all residential and landscape plans and providing guidance when necessary. The committee follows the standards and guidelines set forth in The I’On Code and the Principles of Lowcountry Vernacular Design. More information can be found under Build/Renovate.
The Infrastructure Committee works with the Management Company to oversee repair and maintenance work on all neighborhood infrastructure assets. Examples include common area structures, fences, lakes, paths, access lanes, and streetlights. The committee also prepares and tracks the annual infrastructure budget for the neighborhood. It identifies opportunities for infrastructure enhancement work in the neighborhood and works with the Assembly Board to obtain approval.
The Landscape Committee works closely with the Landscape Contractor and Management Company to set priorities for common area landscape work in the neighborhood. The committee provides feedback to the Landscape Contractor regarding quality of the landscape work. It develops and tracks the annual landscape budget for the neighborhood. The committee also identifies opportunities for landscape enhancement work in the neighborhood and works with the Assembly Board to obtain approval.
